About First Australians Health

First Australians Health is an Aboriginal-led health initiative dedicated to improving health outcomes, creating employment pathways, and strengthening community wellbeing through culturally safe, community-focused healthcare services.

Founded by proud Bundjalung man Michael Johnson, First Australians Health was established to address the ongoing health inequities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by delivering practical, community-driven solutions that improve access to essential diagnostic, screening, and preventative health services.

We believe that better health outcomes are achieved when communities are empowered to participate in their own healthcare journey. Our approach combines early detection, evidence-based healthcare, workforce development, education, and community engagement to support healthier individuals, families, and communities.

Our services are designed to work in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS), government agencies, educational institutions, and local communities. Through these partnerships, we aim to increase access to healthcare services that are often difficult to obtain in regional, rural, and remote communities.

Our Areas of Focus

  • Sleep Health and Sleep Apnoea Screening
  • Respiratory Health and Lung Function Testing
  • Cardiac Health Screening and Monitoring
  • Pathology and Diagnostic Support Services
  • Lifestyle and Chronic Disease Prevention Programs
  • Workforce Development and Training Pathways
  • Community Health Education and Awareness Programs

Building a Stronger Aboriginal Health Workforce

A key focus of First Australians Health is creating education, training, and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people. We are committed to developing local healthcare capability by supporting Aboriginal Health Workers, trainees, and community members to gain skills in diagnostic testing, patient care, and healthcare service delivery.

By investing in our people, we can create meaningful career pathways while ensuring healthcare services remain culturally safe, sustainable, and community-led.
